Consciousness
What
is this thing we call consciousness? Consciousness according the Miriam Webster
is the quality or state of being aware especially of something within oneself, the
state or fact of being conscious of an external object, state, or fact, an awareness. The state of being characterized
by sensation, emotion, volition, and thought, mind. My definition of
consciousness would be the ability of one to be self-aware, while also being able
to perceive various things in any given environment, while not being taken off
task or have someone’s else’s thoughts processes to interfere with one’s own.
Knowing thyself is the key. It can
always also be considered the ability to control one’s emotions. This is total
control of oneself.
We are spiritual or energy beings. The bible states that
Strong meat belongs to those that by having exercised their senses have they
been able to discern both good and evil. This basically translates to being
able to read a person and know their intentions, without even have an in-depth
knowledge of the person. The intuition is given for a reason. Women tend to be
naturally more perceptive than men. Estrogen serves more purposes than one may
think. It is in having control of one’s thoughts and emotions that is the key
element in consciousness.
To understand the mind and consciousness is a wonderful
thing. Many have experienced things at some point in life, that has impeded a
person’s ability to accurately perceive. There are emotions attached to various
experiences in life. These experiences trap or compartmentalize our emotions.
It is not our experiences that hinder our ability to perceive or be conscious,
but the associated feelings and emotions. The way we feel about an experience
or subject is the thing that causes positive or negative emotions or thoughts.
When we gain the ability to speak about a subject and do
not allow negative emotions or thoughts to manifest, this is how we know we are
over a thing. It is ideal to be mindful of how we feel, that removes the power
an experience has over our lives. Consciousness increases as we gain wisdom in
life. One must be mindful of their thoughts, emotions, and intentions. Even in
times where life happens and we get angry, self-control is very important.
We are predisposed to being inadvertently affected by the
mindset of those we are surrounded if we are not diligently aware. Mindfulness
is a practice that can increase our levels of awareness and clear our minds throughout
the day. Deep breathing can release mental tension and increase clarity, when
exposed to stressful situations. Be in control and do not allow situations to
control you.
For those of us who are conscious, we must be in control
of the knowledge we are in possession of. Integrity is the main component. It
is not what you are in possession of, but how we use our knowledge. Knowledge is
power, but with knowledge we must be responsible for our thoughts, behaviors,
and actions. Be a person of integrity and do what is right, even when no one is
watching.
